6 arrested at Chennai airport for smuggling gold, foreign currencies

As many as six persons were arrested for smuggling gold worth Rs 81 lakh and foreign currencies at the Chennai international airport. A case has been registered and further investigation against accused is underway.

Customs department officials on Sunday arrested at least 6 persons and seized 1.62 kg of gold worth Rs 81 lakh at the Chennai international airport.

They also seized foreign currencies to the tune of Rs 6.60 lakh from them. Acting on a tip-off and noticing suspicious movement, the officials conducted searches and found gold and foreign currencies. A case has been registered and further investigation against accused individuals is underway, officials said.
